An introduction to studio lighting

This workshop is crafted for beginner to intermediate photographers and natural light professionals who want to explore studio lighting and gain valuable hands-on experience in a professional studio environment. After a year of hosting successful workshops on studio lighting and posing, this half-day intensive has become one of the most popular courses.

Are you looking to refine your photography skills and incorporate studio lighting into your work? If so, this workshop is perfect for you!

Key takeaways

  • Get a comprehensive introduction to Godox strobe lights, focusing on how to use them effectively and efficiently. You’ll also learn how to set up your equipment, including light stands, modifiers, and triggers.

  • Discover how to work safely in the studio, including tips for electrical safety and other important safety considerations (health & safety).

  • Get a comprehensive run through of all the lighting modifiers used in fashion and portrait photography, and learn how to create timeless lighting setups that meet today’s industry standards.

  • Discover how to plan your lighting based on a client's brief to ensure that you meet their needs and expectations.

  • Make the most of your time in the studio to familiarise yourself with the equipment, experiment with various lighting setups and modifiers, and get creative.

  • Connect with fellow creatives in the industry for inspiration and networking opportunities.

By the end of the workshop, you'll have a clear understanding of how studio lights operate, when to use them, and the reasons behind their usage. My aim for this course is to provide you with a comprehensive introduction to the equipment, offer hands-on experience with the gear, and foster an environment where you can freely ask questions.

MJ

“The studio lighting workshop was great! I’ve been photographing for a few years using natural light and the occasional on camera flash but I’d always wanted to learn more about using studio lights. Paulinne gave us a such a comprehensive introduction to the most common lights, working in a studio setting and talked through plenty of examples of her own photos. We also had the opportunity to try out different light set ups with our own cameras. It was such a fun day! Thanks so much, Paulinne”

“I have nothing but praise and positivity to say about the recent workshop that I attended with Paulinne. The way the information was given out was easy to understand and simple. I loved that we were showed how to physically do the things we were being taught and then given to opportunity to put it into place ourselves. I could have spent all day in there with those people. THANK YOU”

 FAQs

  • No previous studio experience is needed. We’ll start from the basics and guide you through everything!

  • You don’t need any high-end gear. As long as you have a DSLR or mirrorless camera that can be set to manual mode and a lens with a focal length between 24-85mm, you're good to go. All other studio equipment, including triggers, will be provided on the day.

  • Having hosted workshops for over 150 photographers, I can say the atmosphere is always incredible! Participants are always so welcoming and kind. Most are new to the studio or have limited experience, just like you! I keep each event to a maximum of 12 people to create a relaxed and personalised environment where everyone feels seen and heard.
